A Novel Approach to Modular Control of Highway and Arterial Networks using Petri Nets Modeling

In this paper, integrated control of highways and intersections is investigated. A modular Petri-Net-based framework implemented to model the traffic flow highway arterial network systems. framework, intersection lights are modeled by Timed Petri Nets (TPN). The timing variable speed limits on managed be optimized using an intelligent algorithm. This algorithm provides a trade-off between length queue vehicles entrance ramp at after each time cycle. performance controller fixed were compared. simulation results verify that use optimization methods manage in limitation can considerably improve special conditions such as rainy weather accidents. Additionally, method enhance normal hours, while rush hours midnight, improvement negligible.
